I selected the flexitarian meal plan for 2 people, 5 meals a week. I am a pescatarian and my partner eats meat, so the flexitarian option suits us very well. At the time of selecting my first box in March 2025, there were 44 menu options to choose from. I did not need to use any additional filters on the menu to find the recipes I wanted however, I did navigate to the ‘deals and seasonal’ tab to choose a recipe from the ‘Taste of Korea’ menu.

As I found in my previous experience, HelloFresh’s menu is quite ‘cluttered’ in appearance. Whilst they go above and beyond to provide you with a lot of information on the recipe tiles including calories, preparation time, cooking time and dietary tags, it can be overwhelming to the eye. Despite this, I was able to easily add the recipes I wanted to my order. Some of the recipes I chose had a ‘customisable protein’ tag which when selected, gave me the option to switch the protein. For the Korean-Style Chicken Bites & Garlic Rice recipe, I swapped the chicken breast for chicken tenderloins as this is my partners preference when it comes to chicken. The ability to customise the recipes is a great feature of HelloFresh. Once I had selected my recipes, I proceeded to the checkout and adjusted my delivery time for Saturday’s between 12:00am and 7:00am.

The 5 recipes I chose in my first box were:

  • Korean-Style Chicken Bites & Garlic Rice
  • Easy Honey Haloumi & Harissa-Aioli Tacos
  • Falafel & Spinach-Tomato Salsa Toss
  • Sweet Chilli Glazed Plant-Based Burger
  • HelloHero: Thai Sticky Glazed Beef Tacos

The 5 recipes I selected in my second box included:

  • Sticky Tofu Bites & Sesame Sriracha Slaw
  • Prawn Singapore Style Noodles
  • One-Pot Garlicky Mushroom Orecchiette
  • Sticky Prawn Wontons & Corn Rice
  • Speedy Sweet Soy Beef & Noodle Stir-Fry

My boxes arrived well packed, with all recipes in clearly numbered brown paper bags and fridge ingredients in chilled packs. The printed recipes cards were also inside the boxes. Hello Fresh is still yet to offer digital recipe cards as an option. If you are looking for meal delivery kits that offer digital recipe cards, Dinnerly and QuiteLike both offer this option.

Instead of having to store lo0se ingredients, storing each recipe in the fridge is made easy due to the brown paper bags. Thanks to the numbered system, locating your recipe when it’s time to cook is simple – each recipe card has a corresponding number to its recipe bag to avoid any confusion.

The HelloFresh recipe cards are well laid out and easy to understand. The front of the cards clearly depicts all the ingredients required for each recipe, pantry items, the prep time, cooking time, along with any notes including recipe updates or ‘Eat Me First’. The back of the recipe cards includes a detailed ingredients list, a nutritional information panel, allergen information, the four step recipe and tips and notes to help you create the best meal possible. All recipe cards include ingredients quantities for 2 and 4 people. Previously, HelloFresh’s recipes were a 6-step process, yet now they have simplified their recipes even further to only 4 steps! For those that are new to cooking or want less fuss, the 4-step recipes are a great update.

Like most other meal kit delivery services, the allergen information must be accessed online to receive a full breakdown per recipe. If you are someone with specific allergies, this may be a hindrance and should be considered.
